Updates From The Archives

Foundation Archivist, Janette Ratcliffe shares the history of the Foundation schools and their predecessors through regular updates on Twitter.
Foundation Archivist, Janette Ratcliffe, loves to share the history of the Foundation Schools and their predecessors and is building quite a following on Twitter, with her regular tweets including fantastic, fascinating and even funny facts from our School archives.

This weekend’s treats included Saturday’s post on the archive’s #heritagetreasure the beautiful Te Deum illuminated manuscript created by Sister Mary Francis de Sales, who later became the Prioress of St Mary’s, and Sister Mary Walburga. The manuscript was returned to the College in 2016 after being spotted by Dr Nick Baker, Janette’s predecessor, in an auction.

Then Sunday’s reflections were all about #milkday with a Down On The Farm article from the 1971 edition of the Princethorpe Magazine. Did you know there was a dairy herd at Princethorpe College and the cows produced 120 gallons of milk a day of which 30-40 gallons went to the College for the boys to drink and that boys were also allowed to help at the farm if they were interested.  Now that was a co-curricular club with a difference!
